Megabanks’ entry into public chains and the rise of autonomous AI
This week was defined by major international banks making big moves on public chains for stablecoins, alongside the rise of agentic AI.
Fidelity Investments - one of the world’s largest asset managers with over $5.9 trillion in discretionary AUM - announced its own Ethereum-based stablecoin: the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD). Available to retail and institutional investors starting in February, FIDD will streamline purchasing and redemption on Fidelity’s digital asset platforms as well as major exchanges.
This follows news from December regarding JP Morgan launching MONY, their tokenized money market fund on Ethereum. MONY allows qualified investors to earn yield on short-term US treasuries with daily payouts, similar to BlackRock’s BUIDL fund (launched in early 2024).
Fidelity Digital Assets President Mike O’Reilly cited the regulatory clarity provided by the GENIUS Act in the US as a key milestone enabling this launch.
The waves the GENIUS Act is making overseas are clearly impacting Japan, too. Earlier this week, the FSA announced a new “Crypto Assets and Stablecoin Division.” This comes after an FSA budget and restructuring request for FY2026 cited the growing pressure of responding to fintech and cryptocurrency transaction inquiries.
The new division is expected to help stablecoin pilot projects by Japan’s three megabanks - Mitsubishi UFJ, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Mizuho - finally become reality this year. Japan Smart Chain is well-positioned to capture this growing emphasis on stablecoin transactions. It is optimized for Japanese regulatory clarity and encompasses a “product-first” focus to kickstart widespread digital asset usage among consumers.
AI Agents on Chain
Another hot topic this week was AI. Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle (USDC), stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos that blockchains such as Arc are being designed specifically for agentic compute.
“[AI Agents] need an economic system, they need a financial system, they need a payment system - there is no other alternative in my view other than stablecoins right now …. It is a critical focus for us, and not just us.”
- Jeremy Allaire, WEF 2026

Allaire’s comments followed the successful merge of the ERC-8004 standard into the Ethereum mainnet master branch, which enables AI agents to interact across organizations with portable, verifiable reputation and identity. Approximately 10,000 agents are currently running on testnets, some of which were launched on Ethereum Mainnet in the last 24 hours.
As an Ethereum equivalent blockchain, JSC will inherit the same credentials for AI agents on Ethereum automatically.
