日本初の日本円建てステーブルコイン「JPYC」が10月27日に正式発行され、同時に発行・償還専用プラットフォーム「JPYC EX」が公開されました。2022年6月に世界に先駆けて日本でステーブルコインに関する法令が公布されましたが、JPYCは、2023年6月の施行から約2年半の時を経て、はじめて同法令に準拠したステーブルコインです。
JPYC EXでは、銀行振込による日本円入金でJPYCを発行しウォレットへ受け取ることができ、逆にJPYCを送付して円に償還することも可能です。EthereumやPolygonなど複数のチェーンに対応し、法定通貨とブロックチェーンを直接結ぶ仕組みとして注目されています。すでに開始数日で発行金額は8700万円を突破し、関心の高さが伺えます。
円建てステーブルコインの登場は、日本国内の決済・送金・トークン経済の実用化を大きく前進させる動きといえるでしょう。世界的にステーブルコインが次世代決済インフラとして進化する中、日本も法制度を整備し実用フェーズへ移行。円の安定供給が進めば、日本企業のグローバル決済ネットワークにおける存在感も一段と高まりそうです。
Japan’s first yen-denominated stablecoin, JPYC, was officially issued on October 27, along with the launch of its dedicated issuance and redemption platform, JPYC EX. In June 2022, Japan became the first country in the world to enact legislation specifically regulating stablecoins. After approximately two and a half years since the law came into effect in June 2023, JPYC has been issued as the first stablecoin compliant with this legal framework.
Through JPYC EX, users can deposit Japanese yen via bank transfer to receive JPYC in their wallets, or send JPYC back to redeem it for yen. The platform supports multiple blockchains, including Ethereum and Polygon, serving as a key bridge between fiat currency and blockchain networks. Within just a few days of its launch, the total amount issued exceeded 87 million yen, demonstrating strong market interest.
The introduction of a yen-backed stablecoin marks a major step toward the practical adoption of digital payments, remittances, and token-based economies in Japan. As stablecoins evolve globally into next-generation payment infrastructure, Japan—backed by its newly established legal framework—is entering a phase of real-world implementation. A stable and widely available digital yen could further strengthen the presence of Japanese companies in global payment networks.
